WA's First Affordable Housing for LGBTQ Seniors: A Groundbreaking Development

The Pacific Northwest has officially opened its first affordable and inclusive housing and community center for LGBTQIA+ older adults. Pride Place, a collaboration between Community Roots Housing and GenPride, offers seven stories of new affordable housing in the heart of Capitol Hill. The property includes retail space and a 4,400-square-foot senior community center.

Last month marked the arrival of Pride Place’s first residents. Located at 1521 Broadway on the site of the historic Eldridge Tire Company building, this development features 118 apartment homes within walking distance to grocery stores, pharmacies, parks, and medical centers in First Hill.

Funding for this $54.4 million project came from both public and private investments including low-income state and federal tax credits from entities such as City of Seattle Office of Housing , Washington State Housing Trust Fund , King County Housing Finance Program , Sound Transit , JP Morgan Chase , Hudson Housing Capital, and Fannie Mae .
