The Pacific Northwest has recently welcomed the opening of Pride Place, a new affordable housing and community center specifically designed for LGBTQIA+ older adults. This groundbreaking collaboration between Community Roots Housing and GenPride offers seven stories of affordable housing in the heart of Capitol Hill, conveniently located above retail space and a 4,400-square-foot senior community center.
Last month marked the first residents moving into their new homes at Pride Place. Situated at 1521 Broadway on the site of the historic Eldridge Tire Company building, this development features 118 apartment homes within walking distance to essential amenities such as grocery stores, pharmacies, parks, and medical centers in First Hill.
Funding for this $54.4 million project was made possible through both public and private investments including low-income state and federal tax credits from organizations like City of Seattle Office of Housing,Washington State Housing Trust Fund,Kings County Housing Finance Program,Sound Transit,JPMorgan Chase,Hudson Housing Capital, and Fannie Mae.
This significant achievement marks Washington’s first affordable housing initiative tailored towards LGBTQ seniors,a milestone that will greatly benefit this underserved population.
