Walmart has recently opened a cutting-edge fresh food distribution center in Lancaster, just 15 miles south of Dallas. This impressive facility spans over 730,000 square feet and is located at 940 East Pleasant Run Road. Its main purpose is to receive and process a variety of perishable items such as produce, eggs, dairy products, and frozen goods for timely delivery to nearby Walmart stores.
Thanks to state-of-the-art technology implemented within the distribution center’s operations, Walmart can now handle more than double the volume compared to traditional DCs. This allows for faster restocking of store shelves than ever before.
As part of its supply chain transformation strategy, perishable distribution centers play a crucial role in keeping Walmart’s over 4,600 stores well-stocked with fresh and frozen merchandise. The newly opened Lancaster facility marks the second out of five planned locations dedicated solely to this purpose.
To ensure smooth operations at this advanced facility in Lancaster alone will require an estimated workforce of around 500 employees. With over 176000 associates already employed across Texas by Walmart – which boasts an impressive network consisting currently out approximately590 retail locations throughout the state – it continues its commitment towards providing quality service through innovation.
