Walmart is set to mark the conversion of its store on East Wetmore Road in Tucson into a full-service Supercenter, with the upgraded location opening to customers on Wednesday, Sept. 2. The remodeled store will span about 180,000 square feet, positioning it as a large-format retail destination within the local trade area.
Located at 455 E. Wetmore Road, the property previously operated as Tucson’s last remaining Walmart store focused on general merchandise. With the upgrade to Supercenter format, the location is shifting from a limited assortment to a full-line offering intended to accommodate complete weekly shopping needs under one roof.
The conversion adds a comprehensive fresh grocery component to the store’s existing general merchandise mix. Customers will now be able to purchase produce, meat, dairy and frozen foods on site, reflecting a broader emphasis on everyday essentials and perishable categories that were not previously available at this location.
In addition to the expanded grocery offering, the remodel introduces a new deli and bakery, giving shoppers access to prepared foods and in-store baked items. These additions are designed to complement the full grocery department and enhance the property’s appeal as a one-stop shopping destination for household needs, food and consumables.
The pharmacy has also been updated as part of the Supercenter conversion. Improvements include an additional private consultation room, providing space for more confidential interactions between pharmacists and customers. Walmart has further broadened the store’s assortment in several departments, including automotive, fashion, consumables and health and wellness, creating a wider product selection across key categories.
With the completion of this conversion, local shoppers will now be able to fill prescriptions, shop for fresh groceries and purchase a broad range of general merchandise at a single, 180,000-square-foot location on East Wetmore Road, reflecting an operational upgrade of the asset within the Tucson retail landscape.
