Vulcan Real Estate is proudly celebrating its decade-long partnership with Salmon-Safe, a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to sustainable development. As the first accredited developer by Salmon-Safe, Vulcan has successfully incorporated their principles into 17 projects since 2014.
Salmon-Safe is a non-profit organization based in Oregon that focuses on preserving West Coast watersheds for native salmon. According to Dan Kent, co-founder and executive director of Salmon-Safe, Vulcan was an early adopter of the LEED Rating System and their adoption of Salmon-Safe certification has played a crucial role in shifting the region’s development market towards projects that prioritize urban ecosystems preservation and climate resiliency.
As an active developer in the area with properties such as West Main – a three-tower project leased to Amazon – and Lake Union Piers – a revitalized retail and entertainment hub located in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood – Vulcan continues to make significant contributions towards sustainable development.
Corey Wilson, senior real estate environmental manager at Vulcan states that there is an exciting ripple effect from having numerous general contractors accredited by Salmon Safe here on Pacific Northwest soil. This extends not only to contractors but also landscape architects, civil engineers, and other design professionals who are committedto upholding these principles.
