Vornado Quietly Abandons Pier 92 Development Plans

Vornado Realty Trust has changed its plans to redevelop trade show space on Pier 94 in Manhattan’s West Side after the discovery of structural issues with neighboring Pier 92, according to Crain’s New York Business. The developer and the New York City Economic Development Corp. (NYEDC) have decided to drop the project and instead focus on building a movie studio at Pier 94. Vornado is finalizing a new 99-year lease for the property with NYC, while demolition of existing structures is set to begin this fall and construction should be completed by late 2025. Additionally, it is possible that Pier 92 may be converted into parking for the film production site.

This move comes as another high-profile film production facility – Wildflower Studios backed by actor Robert De Niro – nears completion in Astoria Queens later this year featuring 11 sound stages across seven stories. With these two developments underway, NYC will soon become an even more attractive destination for filmmakers looking for state-of-the art facilities within close proximity of each other as well as all that Manhattan has offer culturally and commercially speaking .
