Vella Group Secures Planning Commission Approval for $1.4B Mixed-Use Development in Downtown Los Angeles

The Vella Group has successfully obtained approval from the Los Angeles City Planning Commission for their 670 Mesquit project. This $1.4 billion mixed-use development, designed by Bjarke Ingels, will cover 1.8 million square feet and is located in Downtown LA’s Arts District.

According to L.A Business First, the project will feature a variety of amenities including 676,000 square feet of creative office space, a hotel with 270 rooms, 800 apartments units and various dining options such as a grocery store and restaurants totaling nearly 28,700 square feet. Additionally,the development will include a gym spanning over34 ,000squarefeet,a studio/event space,and potentially even amuseum covering up to35 ,515squarefeet.

Situated on approximately5 .5acres along the west side of the Los Angeles River,this project has been eight years in the making since it was first proposed by The Vella Group as an alternative use for an old cold storage facility.

With this recent approval fromthe Planning Commission,the next step is forthe City Councilto reviewand approveit before groundbreaking can take placeas early asnext year.This highly anticipated MXUdevelopmentis set to bring new lifeand vitalityto this areaof DTLA.
