The mix of a $200 million tax-exempt bond with major philanthropic and corporate contributions underscores how large, mission-driven sports facilities are increasingly financed through blended public, private, and sponsor capital stacks rather than traditional single-source funding.

US Soccer has opened its new National Training Center near Atlanta, delivering a $250 million headquarters complex timed to be operational ahead of the FIFA World Cup. The campus is located just outside Trilith on a 200-acre site, with 123 acres developed in the initial phase and additional land reserved for future growth as the sport expands. The facility brings together training, administrative, and community-facing functions in one purpose-built environment.

The National Training Center is anchored by an expansive outdoor training program, featuring 17 playing surfaces. These include 13 regulation-size natural grass fields designed to support elite-level competition and training, along with two artificial turf fields intended to provide flexibility and resilience in varying weather conditions. The complex also incorporates two sand pitches built specifically for beach soccer, adding another specialized training and competition format to the campus.

Indoor facilities exceed 400,000 square feet in total, consolidating a range of high-performance and support spaces. The training center includes two indoor playing surfaces, among them an indoor artificial turf training facility and a full-size futsal and power court, enabling year-round use and programming. A 10,000-square-foot high-performance gym is designed to support player strength, conditioning, and recovery needs across multiple national teams and programs.

The building program is supported by 20 locker rooms and 19 meeting rooms, providing dedicated space for athletes, coaches, federation staff, and community users. The campus also includes purpose-built headquarters space that houses all US Soccer staff under one roof. By combining administrative, technical, and training functions, the organization concentrates its operations at a single national hub while leaving capacity on the site for future expansion.

The project’s capital stack blends philanthropy, public-sector support, and corporate contributions. Atlanta Falcons and PGA Superstore owner Arthur Blank donated $50 million to the National Training Center, providing a significant philanthropic anchor for the development. The Fayette County Development Authority issued a $200 million tax-exempt bond to support the effort, underscoring the use of public financing tools for large-scale sports and training infrastructure.

In addition to the bond financing and major gift, a group of corporate and institutional partners contributed to the project. These include AT&T, Bank of America, Chobani, Coca-Cola, Emory Healthcare, Nike, and OURA. Their participation reflects a broad sponsorship and partnership base behind the new campus, aligning multiple brands with US Soccer’s long-term training and development platform. The result is a large, multi-field complex that serves as both a headquarters and a central training destination for the federation.
