Transwestern Development Co. has begun construction on a 17-acre development in Upper Kirby that will bring an array of new amenities to the area. The project, known as “The RO,” will feature two high-rise buildings, luxury apartments, retail space and a condo-hotel.
The first phase of the development includes a 36-story multifamily high-rise with 317 rental units and a four-story podium. Additionally, there will be a 300,000-square-foot office tower designed by Pickard Chilton.
Located at the former site of an Exxon research facility on Buffalo Speedway in River Oaks (RO), this project is set to revitalize the neighborhood with its mix of residential and commercial offerings. The retail village will include up to eight restaurants and another 400 apartment units.
One unique aspect of The RO is its condo-hotel called “The Birdsall.” This property features both condominiums (44 total) as well as hotel rooms operated by Auberge Resorts – their first location in Houston.
With completion expected in 2027, this ambitious project aims to provide over three-quarters million square feet under one roof for residents and visitors alike.
