Transwestern Development Co. has commenced construction on a 17-acre development in Upper Kirby, which will feature apartments, retail spaces, and two high-rise buildings. The first phase of the project includes a luxurious 36-story multifamily building with 317 rental units atop a four-story podium and an office tower spanning over 300,000 square feet. Pickard Chilton is responsible for the master plan of this development.
Located at the former site of Exxon’s research facility on Buffalo Speedway, The RO (short for River Oaks) will also have a retail village with up to eight restaurants and an additional 400 apartment units. A condo-hotel called Birdsall will be part of this project as well; it will consist of 44 condominiums above a hotel operated by Auberge Resorts – their first location in Houston. Upon completion in2027,the total built-up area under one roof at The ROwill be740,000 square feet.
