University Metra Board Approves $33 Million Upgrade for Chicago State University Station

The Metra Board of Directors has approved a $33.4 million contract to revitalize and expand the 95th St./Chicago State University Station on the Metra Electric Line. This project will greatly enhance accessibility and connectivity for commuters, particularly those with disabilities.

According to Jim Derwinski, Executive Director/CEO of Metra, improving stations along the Metra Electric Line is a top priority in order to accommodate individuals with disabilities. Additionally, this presents an opportunity to strengthen our partnership with Chicago State University by creating a station that serves as a gateway between their campus and our transportation system.

John Burns Construction has been awarded the contract for this project which includes replacing the existing headhouse, platform and stairs; constructing a new street-level entrance on 95th St.; adding an enclosed entrance area; installing a new elevator; building a new platform with full-length canopy; constructing CSU campus headhouse; and creating walkways/bike lanes leading to commuter parking lot. The construction is set to begin later this summer and estimated completion time is approximately 40 months from start date.
