United Airlines Expanding Houston Airport Terminal: Redesign and Renovation

United Airlines has announced plans to modernize and expand Terminal B at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The proposal aims to enhance capacity and improve the travel experience for passengers. Terminal B will be modified, while Terminal B North will need to be demolished and rebuilt in order to accommodate new, larger planes.

The next phase of the redevelopment project includes a new security checkpoint leading passengers into modernized concourses as well as an expansion of the baggage claim area which is expected triple its capacity. Construction on both B North, South and processor areas are set begin in July with one of these concourses projected open by mid-2026.

In order minimize disruptions during construction United Airlines officials have stated that they anticipate creating over 2,000 direct jobs from this project alone; adding onto Houston’s airport system which generates approximately $36 billion annually along with 190 thousand jobs across all sectors .
