United Airlines Buys Former Motorola Property for Business Operations

United Airlines has acquired a 205,000-square-foot office building in Arlington Heights that formerly housed Motorola’s wireless network equipment business. According to Crain’s Chicago Business, the purchase will provide more space for United’s network operations center. Last year, the airline moved out of its headquarters at Willis Tower due to flooding which caused flight dispatchers to evacuate and relocate to a backup facility.

Currently employing 1,500 workers in Arlington Heights with plans for further hiring, United is taking advantage of additional amenities and fitness facilities offered by the new building as well as remodeling and expanding their Houston airport terminal . The property was purchased from Northbrook-based Torburn Partners who had acquired it through sale leaseback with Nokia Siemens back in 2013 when they bought Motorola’s network equipment business for nearly $1 billion.
