The former Potrero Power Station site in San Francisco is set to undergo a major transformation with the approval of a new project by city supervisors. The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) will be constructing a state-of-the-art research and outpatient cancer treatment center on part of the 21-acre site, which is being developed by Associate Capital.
Spanning nearly 300,000 square feet and standing at 130 feet tall, this new building will serve as an anchor for Associate Capital’s larger development plans for the area. These plans include up to 2,600 housing units, over 1.6 million square feet of commercial space, parks and even a hotel with approximately 250 rooms.
City officials have long prioritized the redevelopment of this historic site which was once home to PG&E’s fossil fuel power plant before its closure in 2011. With its iconic boiler stack still standing at over three hundred feet tall and plans for it to be converted into a boutique hotel as well as other developments underway nearby such as Chase Center and Pier70 by Brookfield Properties; it’s clear that this area is poised for significant growth.
Overall, this exciting project marks another step towards revitalizing San Francisco’s urban landscape while also providing cutting-edge facilities that will benefit both UCSF researchers and patients alike.
