"UCLA to Acquire Former Westside Pavilion from Hudson Pacific and Macerich: Breaking News"

UCLA has acquired the former Westside Pavilion in Los Angeles from Hudson Pacific Properties and Macerich. The purchase includes the eastern half of the mall, which has been converted into office space, as well as the western portion that remains largely unchanged.

The deal to transform this shuttered shopping mall into a 584,000-square-foot office campus for Google was announced by Hudson Pacific Properties in early 2019. However, according to Urbanize LA’s report on Wednesday, this agreement is now uncertain.

In a recent environmental notice filed by UCLA, it was stated that this acquisition does not signify any decision regarding future development plans for the property. The university will only make such decisions after complying with CEQA regulations and obtaining approval for an overall site development plan. Additionally, the university retains full discretion over potential mitigation measures and alternative uses for the property.

Notably excluded from this purchase is GPI Cos.’s West End complex (formerly Macy’s), which spans 240,000 square feet of office space according to Urbanize LA’s report. This acquisition marks another significant investment by UCLA following its previous purchases of properties like Downtown LA’s historic Trust Building and Marymount California University campus in Rancho Palos Verdes.
