The University of Chicago has announced a major donation of $75 million from the AbbVie Foundation to support the construction of their new cancer pavilion. This generous contribution will go towards the development of UChicago Medicine’s flagship hub, a state-of-the-art 575,000-square-foot building set to open in 2027.
University president Paul Alivisatos expressed his gratitude for this significant donation and highlighted how it aligns with their mission to improve community health. He also emphasized that this partnership reflects AbbVie Foundation’s confidence in UChicago as a leading medical institution dedicated to tackling global health challenges.
The university stated that this new pavilion will be Illinois’ first standalone facility solely focused on transforming cancer care. It will serve as an innovative center for research, clinical treatments, and patient care under UChicago Medicine’s expertise.
