"Two Boston-Area Hospitals to be Closed by Steward on Labor Day"

Steward Health Care announced on Friday that it will be shutting down two hospitals in Massachusetts due to a lack of qualified bids after declaring bankruptcy earlier this year, according to ABC News. The affected facilities are Carney Hospital located in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston and Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer, MA, which is approximately 45 miles west of Boston.

Despite conducting an extensive sale process with involvement from lenders and regulators, Steward was unable to secure any suitable offers for these two hospitals. As a result, both Carney Hospital and Nashoba Valley Medical Center will cease operations around August 31st. Steward has been actively trying to sell or transition all its Massachusetts hospitals and is currently finalizing negotiations for six others.

The Dallas-based company assured that it is working closely with state and federal agencies during the closure process. In addition, they expressed their commitment to assisting patients at Carney Hospital and Nashoba Valley find alternative care options as well as supporting employees through this challenging transition period.
