T&T Supermarket is advancing its U.S. growth strategy with plans for a new store at NewPark Mall in Newark, following the recent debut of its first California location in San Jose. The retailer, described as Canada’s largest Asian grocery chain, has identified the Newark site as its fourth Bay Area store and its first in the East Bay.
The planned supermarket will encompass 72,600 square feet and will be housed in the former Macy’s anchor space at the regional shopping center. According to the company, this will be T&T’s largest California location to date, underscoring the importance of the NewPark Mall store within its U.S. rollout.
The store is planned for 200 NewPark Mall Road and is expected to open in Winter 2027. Once operational, the location is intended to draw customers from Newark as well as nearby communities including Fremont, Union City, Hayward and other East Bay neighborhoods, expanding the brand’s reach beyond its initial Silicon Valley foothold.
The new supermarket is projected to create 400 jobs, adding a significant employment boost associated with the re-tenanting of the former department store space. The conversion of the anchor box to grocery use is positioned to introduce a high-frequency, daily-needs retailer to the mall, with the potential to increase regular customer traffic for surrounding inline tenants.
The Econic Company is representing T&T in its California expansion efforts, supporting site selection and rollout as the grocer builds a broader regional footprint. The Newark store joins an expanding U.S. network that currently includes operating locations in Bellevue and Lynnwood in Washington State, as well as the recently opened store in San Jose.
Additional Bay Area locations have been announced in San Francisco and Millbrae, reflecting a multi-market strategy aimed at serving a wide cross-section of Bay Area communities. With the NewPark Mall lease, T&T is extending that strategy into the East Bay, while also adding another large-format grocery use to the region’s shopping center landscape.
