Troubled Phoenix-Area Sports Park Undergoes Ownership and Name Change

The once-troubled Legacy Sports Park has been acquired by AZ Athletic Associates and rebranded as Arizona Athletic Grounds at Mesa Campus (AAG). The 320-acre sports complex, which was the only bidder in the sale, is now under new ownership.

According to reports from the Phoenix Business Journal, AAG is one of the largest sporting venues in the country with a multitude of facilities including an outdoor stadium that can seat 3,000 people and an indoor arena with a capacity of 2,800. Additionally, there are also 35 fields for soccer/lacrosse/football games, 57 indoor volleyball courts, eight baseball and softball fields,and20 basketball courts.

The purchase price of $25.8 million was primarily used to pay off creditors’ debts and mechanics liens as well as professional fees associated with bankruptcy proceedings. As a result, the sale has left AAG free from any outstanding liens or financial obligations.
