"Transforming Houston Offices into a Hotel: The SLTX Project"

In December, SLTX Capital acquired the historic Scanlan building located at 405 Main St. The company has announced plans for a complete renovation of the offices, transforming them into a 140-room hotel with an accompanying restaurant and bar. The property will be branded as Canopy by Hilton.

According to reports from the Houston Business Journal, SLTX purchased the 96,699-square-foot building after it was turned over to lenders by its previous owners in order to avoid foreclosure.

The iconic 11-story building is situated near Main and Preston streets and is well-known for its mural depicting a boy riding a bicycle on one side.

SLTX Capital intends to begin renovations in early 2026 with an expected opening date of summer 2027.

Originally built in1909 by Thomas Howe Scanlan’s family (a two-time mayor of Houston), this site holds historical significance as it was once home to the “White House of Republic Texas.” This location served as residence for two Texas presidents before Austin became capital city in1839.
