Toyota Adds Third EV Battery Plant in North Carolina

Toyota has recently announced a significant investment of nearly $8 billion in Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina (TBMNC) located in Liberty, NC. This investment will result in the addition of approximately 3,000 jobs and brings the total investment to an impressive $13.9 billion with over 5,000 jobs created.

The expansion at TBMNC is specifically aimed at increasing capacity for battery electric vehicles (BEV’s) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV’s).

In partnership with Toyota Tsusho, Toyota had previously announced plans for a new location in Liberty back in 2021 with an initial investment of $1.29 billion and the creation of 1,750 new jobs. With this latest announcement, it is clear that North Carolina will serve as a key hub for lithium-ion battery production within Toyota’s operations across North America. The campus itself spans seven million square feet – equivalent to about 121 football fields – dedicated solely to battery production.

This recent development marks yet another milestone for Toyota as they continue their commitment towards sustainable transportation solutions through investments such as these at TBMNC.
