The iconic Tower Life building in San Antonio is set to undergo a transformation, with Alamo Architects leading the charge. The 95-year-old office building will be revamped into a modern residential complex, featuring 244 apartment units. McCombs Enterprises acquired the property in 2022 and plans to begin construction this summer.
Originally built during the Great Depression, the Gothic Revival structure was once the tallest building in San Antonio until it was surpassed by the Tower of Americas in 1968. The first six floors of what used to be a Sears store boast high ceilings and will soon house trendy urban loft apartments. An amenity floor will also be added on top of these levels, providing residents with access to luxurious amenities such as an outdoor pool and seating areas on the seventh floor. Above that, smaller yet equally stylish apartments are planned.
This ambitious conversion project is expected to span over two years before its completion.
