Construction Begins on SkyLINE Apartments at Rancho Bernardo Transit Station
The Metropolitan Transit System (MTS), along with Affirmed Housing and regional housing leaders, have officially broken ground on the highly anticipated SkyLINE Apartments. This seven-story mixed-use development is located in San Diego’s vibrant Rancho Bernardo neighborhood and will feature 100 affordable apartments as well as 14,000 square feet of commercial space that will serve as the new headquarters for Affirmed Housing.
According to Jimmy Silverwood, president of Affirmed Housing, transit-oriented resources are crucial for a city to meet its residents’ current and future needs. He believes that SkyLINE is an exceptional example of this concept and holds special significance for his company as it will also be their new home.
Situated near various off-site amenities such as bus services, grocery stores, pharmacies, healthcare facilities, and the Rancho Bernardo library, the project makes use of a portion of MTS’ existing parking lot. This aligns with MTS’ larger goal to redevelop park-and-ride locations into transit-oriented developments throughout San Diego.
In attendance at the groundbreaking ceremony were notable figures including San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria,Affirmed Housing President Jimmy Silverwood, and Metropolitan Transit System Board Chair Stephen Whitburn.
