Google has recently revealed new designs for the lower level of the Thompson Center, which is currently undergoing a $280 million renovation project. Upon completion, Google will be relocating its headquarters to this building.
In 2022, the tech giant acquired ownership of this property and announced their intentions to transform it into a large office and workspace. The newly released renderings showcase an atrium that has been reimagined with ample natural light, indoor greenery, and upper-floor offices offering open views.
The architectural design for this renovation is being led by Jahn – the firm founded by Helmut Jahn who was also responsible for designing the original building. His son Evan now leads the firm’s efforts in revamping this iconic structure located at 100 W. Randolph Street. Construction began in May on various upgrades such as replacing old facades and internal spaces with triple-pane glass exteriors while also improving heating and cooling systems within the building.
