CRE Market Beat Take
The RIVVY’s debut adds branded boutique room inventory and meeting space in River North, reinforcing this submarket’s status as a core node for hospitality demand in Chicago’s CBD-adjacent area.

The RIVVY, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel by Marriott, has opened in Chicago’s River North neighborhood, bringing a new boutique hospitality option to the former Hotel 55 site. The property introduces a refreshed identity for the address while maintaining a focus on intimate scale and neighborhood connectivity.

The 297-room hotel is managed by Coury Hospitality and operates under Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio soft brand. Positioned at 55 E. Ontario St., the hotel sits steps from Michigan Avenue and within close proximity to the Chicago Riverwalk, giving guests convenient access to a concentration of retail, dining and entertainment offerings in the surrounding area.

Event and group business is a core component of the property’s program. The RIVVY features eight meeting and event rooms totaling 8,187 square feet, designed to accommodate corporate meetings, weddings, receptions and a range of social gatherings. This dedicated function space is intended to serve both in-house guests and local users seeking a centrally located venue in River North.

On the ground floor, Lure Fishbar anchors the hotel’s food-and-beverage offering. The seafood restaurant occupies the first floor and provides an additional on-site amenity that can support both hotel guests and neighborhood demand. The integration of a recognizable restaurant concept is positioned to enhance the asset’s profile within the local dining scene.

Coury Hospitality president Andrew Casperson described the vision for The RIVVY as aligning with the character of River North, emphasizing a setting that reflects the neighborhood’s energy while serving as a comfortable home base for guests exploring the city. The hotel’s branding and positioning are designed to leverage the mix of culture, nightlife and commerce that defines the area.

Accessibility is reinforced by the property’s transit adjacency, with the Grand Red Line station located less than a five-minute walk from the hotel. Combined with its location near the Magnificent Mile and the Chicago Riverwalk, the hotel is situated to draw both business and leisure travelers who prioritize walkability and transit access within Chicago’s urban core.
