**State of Texas Acquires Two Historic San Antonio Hotels Near the Alamo**
The Texas General Land Office, in partnership with investment firm Rockbridge and the Alamo Trust, has acquired the historic Menger and Crockett Hotels in downtown San Antonio. The acquisition is part of a broader initiative to protect and preserve the iconic Alamo and its surrounding historic grounds.
Rockbridge, a hospitality-focused investment firm, specializes in acquiring, developing, designing, capitalizing, operating, and optimizing hotel assets. By bringing the Menger and Crockett Hotels into the state’s stewardship, the Alamo Trust aims to ensure that these properties are thoughtfully incorporated into the ongoing revitalization of Alamo Plaza.
This integration is seen as a key component of enhancing both the historical and visitor experience in the area. A new visitor center and museum is scheduled to open in 2027. The forthcoming museum will feature immersive exhibits, including a theater equipped with special effects like simulated smoke, sparks, and vibrations to vividly bring the events of the Battle of the Alamo to life.
According to the Alamo Trust, the newly acquired hotels are situated on land that was originally part of the agricultural fields of Mission San Antonio de Valero—an 18th-century Spanish mission known today as the Alamo. The acquisition demonstrates a commitment to preserving the mission’s legacy and providing a cohesive educational and cultural experience for the millions who visit the Alamo each year.
