Taylor Chosen for $40M Battery Recycling Plant

Not all dead batteries end up in landfills. A Canadian company, Moment Energy Inc., has plans to repurpose electric vehicle batteries and open a facility in Taylor by 2026.

Thanks to a $20 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, Moment Energy Inc. will be able to start their $40 million project in the first quarter of next year. While they have not yet secured a location, their goal is to begin with 100,000 square feet and eventually expand to 200,000 square feet within three to five years.

The new facility will bring job opportunities as well – approximately 50 construction jobs during its development phase and up to 200 permanent positions once fully operational. The majority of these jobs will be for manufacturing technicians and production workers (75%), while the remaining positions (25%) will include roles such as engineering, business development, and supply chain management. Once completed, the facility is expected produce an annual output of one gigawatt-hour.
