**City of Tacoma Expands Downtown EV Charging Network**
The City of Tacoma, in collaboration with Tacoma Public Utilities and the Office of Environmental Policy and Sustainability, has significantly expanded its downtown electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, nearly doubling the number of publicly accessible EV chargers as part of the Downtown EV Charging Expansion Project.
A total of 21 new EV chargers have been installed across seven city-operated parking lots and garages. Among these, two chargers have been strategically placed near I-705 to provide convenient access for commuters and visitors. This recent addition brings the total number of public EV chargers in downtown Tacoma to 51. The current network includes 47 Level 2 chargers and two Level 3 DC fast chargers, with plans to activate 13 more in the near future.
“Nearly doubling the number of publicly accessible EV chargers in Tacoma’s downtown core is a major step forward in our commitment to clean transportation and climate resilience,” said Mayor Victoria Woodards. “This expansion not only supports our 2030 electrification goals—it also ensures that downtown remains accessible, future-ready, and welcoming to residents and visitors who are making the switch to electric.”
This initiative reflects the city’s ongoing dedication to sustainability and its goal of promoting environmentally friendly transportation options for the future.
