**Puyallup Tribe Receives Tacoma Building as Gift**
Alma, LLC has donated its 22,000-square-foot former community center near downtown Tacoma to the Puyallup Tribe of Indians.
The landmark building, previously a hub for arts, food, and community events, is now officially under the stewardship of the Puyallup Tribe. “It is simply unprecedented for a gift of this size to be freely given to us,” said the Puyallup Tribal Council, the elected governing body of the Tribe.
From 2018 to 2023, the building served as a venue for music, art, and cultural exchange. The space included a café, a rooftop event area, and an indoor performance hall with a capacity of 500. The transition was facilitated by Anpo, an Indigenous-led nonprofit that supports land return, language preservation, and cultural revitalization in Native communities.
The donation was made with no conditions or restrictions. “We could think of no better recipient than the Puyallup people, who have cared for this land since time immemorial,” said representatives from Alma, LLC.
