Sugar Mill Renovation in Sugar Land Moving Forward

An iconic shell of a former factory emblematic of Sugar Land’s founding is moving closer to being converted into a mixed-use commercial real estate project. The plan includes retail, restaurants, entertainment, offices, apartments and possibly a hotel. The first phase will involve the redevelopment of the most iconic building on the site – the former Char House which still prominently displays Imperial Sugar’s name on top.

The Houston Business Journal reports that while city officials approved a general development plan in March 2020, developer Puma Development is currently preparing final development plans for each phase which could be completed this fall upon approval from city authorities. A Colliers team based in Houston will begin marketing efforts once renderings are available mid-summer this year.

It is estimated that it may take between six to ten years for completion of this project.
