Quincy, MA-based Stop & Shop, a subsidiary of Ahold Delhaize USA, announced on Friday that it will be closing 32 underperforming locations in its five-state region by November 2nd. Out of the 32 stores set to close, fifteen are located in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
Stop & Shop’s president Gordon Reid stated that while the company has been a neighborhood grocer for over a century and is committed to nourishing its associates and customers within the community; they have evaluated their store portfolio and made the difficult decision to close unprofitable locations in order to ensure future growth for their brand.
The following New England locations are among those slated for closure:
Connecticut:
-100 Division St., Ansonia
-211 High St., Torrington (931 Torringford St., Torrington will remain open)
-1937 West Main St., Stamford (2200 Bedford St., Stamford will remain open)
-855 Bridgeport Ave., Milford (1360 East Town Road, Milford will remain open)
-72 Newtown Rd. Danbury (44 Lake Ave. Ext,. Danbury will remain open)
Massachusetts:
-32 North Montello Street Brockton
-36 New State Highway Raynham
-341 Plymouth Street Halifax
-539 Boston Turnpike Shrewsbury

In addition to these closures there are also plans for stores closing in New Jersey(Edison), Carlstadt,Franklin Township Howell, Jackson, Phillipsburg Point Pleasant Beach and Ringwood)and New York(Brooklyn Coram East Meadow Greenvale Hempstead Mt. Vernon West Haverstraw). After these closures are complete Stop & Shop will continue to operate over 350 stores in the five states.
