### Baptist Health System Expanding St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital with $18 Million Investment

Baptist Health System is set to invest $18 million in improvements at St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital, expanding its emergency department and increasing patient capacity. The nearly 6,000-square-foot expansion will introduce new ER space, adding nearly a dozen more beds, including eight additional medical-surgical beds.

As part of the upgrades, the hospital will also double its number of EMS bays from two to four. Baptist Health System, which acquired St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital in 1994, operates one of the busiest emergency departments in San Antonio. The facility currently serves approximately 1,600 emergency patients each month, and demand for care is projected to rise.

The expansion will help compensate for the recent reduction in available hospital rooms following the closure of Christus Health’s medical center hospital in late April.

Construction on the project is expected to begin before the end of the month, with completion scheduled for May 2026.
