Jackson Hsieh has been appointed as the new president and CEO of The Macerich Company, effective March 1. This comes after the retirement of Thomas O’Hern, who served the company for 30 years. Along with O’Hern’s retirement, Edward Coppola will also be retiring from his role as president.
To ensure a smooth transition, O’Hern will continue to serve as an advisor to the Santa Monica-based company until June 30. Hsieh was selected for this position after an extensive search process conducted by the board in collaboration with recruitment firm Ferguson Partners.
According to Steven Hash, chairman of Macerich’s board, “Jackson is a highly experienced real estate executive and is an excellent choice to succeed Tom.” Prior to joining Macerich, Hsieh held various leadership positions in global lodging and real estate investment banking for over 25 years at prestigious firms.
Most recently serving as president and CEO of Spirit Realty Capital where he oversaw its successful merger with Realty Income Corporation through a $9.3 billion all-stock transaction. Under his leadership at Spirit Realty Capital , non-core assets worth $4.7 billion were sold off including spin-off assets valued at approximately $2.9 billion into another publicly traded company while acquiring retail and industrial properties worth over $6 .2billion resulting in a diversified high-quality real estate portfolio.
