Skanska has successfully completed the $89 million project to renovate and expand the Biological Sciences Building, Spaulding Hall, at University of New Hampshire’s campus in Durham, NH. The renowned architectural firm Ellenzweig designed the building to meet LEED Silver certification standards. This project was awarded by University of New Hampshire and was carried out in three phases. These included a total of 130,000 square feet – 82,500 for renovations and 47,500 for additions – which now house state-of-the-art teaching facilities for Biochemistry, Cell Culture,
Medical Laboratory Science,
Anatomy and Physiology,
Ecology,
Organismal Biology
and Neuroscience.
The space also includes research labs as well as core lab facilities and support spaces.
Bryan Northrop , EVP of Skanska USA Building’s New England region stated that this project not only allowed their team to collaborate closely with Ellenzweig architects and engineers to ensure that Spaulding Hall meets the needs of University’s Science Program but also gave them an opportunity to showcase their expertise in sustainable building practices by implementing a central plant energy system that enhances efficiency throughout both new construction areas as well as renovated ones.
