Skender Finishes Construction at The MART Shopping Center

Skender recently completed construction on an expansive, centralized tenant amenity space and upgraded public corridors in one of Chicago’s most iconic buildings, The MART. Dubbed “Evolution of an Icon” by building owner Vornado Realty Trust, the bold repositioning initiative features dramatic improvements to four key areas on the historic building’s second floor: a 29,000-square-foot circulation area; a 21,000-square-foot conference center; a 23,000 square foot fitness center; and 2 000 square feet private tenant lounge.

The project team included Vornado Realty Trust as owner; Gensler as architect; IMEG Corp. for engineering services and Skender as general contractor. Rob Shilney – Senior Project Manager at Skender – commented that “This was four unique projects in one with complex mechanical electrical and plumbing work in a historic occupied building.” He further noted that proactive planning safety measures were critical success factors due to significant foot traffic within this architectural landmark which is home to one of the world’s largest office buildings .
