Skanska has been awarded a $39 million contract by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to design and reconstruct the Maffa Way and Mystic Avenue Bridges in Boston and Somerville. The project aims to improve transit across two of the most highly trafficked roadways in the region, providing a multi-modal link between both cities.
The design-build project involves replacing two steel stringers and concrete deck superstructures, rehabilitating existing bridge substructures, as well as reconstructing and resurfacing approximately 1,800 feet along Maffa Way & Mystic Avenue. Upon completion, these newly revamped bridges will include bike lanes, sidewalks & dedicated bus lanes for improved traffic capacity while better accommodating pedestrians cyclists & transit commuters alike.
Paul Pedini – Senior Vice President for Skanska USA Civil’s New England Region – commented: “The planned improvements will enhance overall functionality of these bridges upon completion” with an expected finish date set at December 2026.
