**Skanska Awarded $303M Contract for Rourke Bridge Replacement in Lowell, MA**

Skanska has been awarded a $303 million design-build contract by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) for the replacement and relocation of the Rourke Bridge in Lowell, Massachusetts. The project is scheduled for completion by spring 2030.

The new bridge will span the Merrimack River, carrying Wood Street across the waterway. The scope of work includes construction of a new seven-span bridge, the reconstruction of adjacent intersections, enhanced bicycle and pedestrian pathways, stormwater system improvements, installation of highway lighting, landscaping, and utility relocations.

During construction, the existing Rourke Bridge will remain open to minimize disruption to traffic and the surrounding community.

“The reconstruction of the new Rourke Bridge will further support the planned growth in this region to accommodate future traffic demand and will improve the overall safety and operational efficiency at this crossing of the Merrimack River,” said Paul Pedini, Senior Vice President at Skanska USA Civil. “Skanska looks forward to helping design and build another essential piece of infrastructure that will enhance the transportation experience of the local community.”
