Skanska, a leading construction company, has been awarded a $22.6 million contract by the Town of Belmont to construct the new Belmont Skating Rink and Athletic Facility in Massachusetts. The project is set to replace the existing Viglirolo Skating Rink and is expected to be completed in early 2025 after commencing construction in October 2023.
The state-of-the-art facility will span over 40,300 square feet and feature a steel-framed pre-engineered metal building with an ice sheet measuring 200 feet by 85 feet. It will also include amenities such as locker rooms, seating areas, and a concession stand for visitors.
Galante Architecture Studio has designed this project with sustainability in mind, aligning with Belmont’s goals. This includes incorporating PV solar panels and utilizing a heat pump refrigeration system for energy efficiency.
Skanska’s impressive portfolio of projects in Massachusetts includes the Deerfield Academy athletic complex and Margot Connell Recreation Center at Boston College. This latest venture marks their continued partnership with Belmont after previously collaborating on projects such as the construction and renovation of both middle schools within town limits.
This announcement highlights Skanska’s expertise in delivering high-quality facilities that meet clients’ needs while also promoting sustainable practices within communities they serve.
