**Skanska Plans 31-Story Apartment Tower in Houston’s Montrose Neighborhood**

Skanska is set to develop a 31-story apartment tower at the intersection of Westheimer Road and Montrose Boulevard in Houston. The mixed-use project, named *Starling*, will include approximately 30,000 square feet of retail space.

According to the *Houston Business Journal*, Skanska acquired the 2.86-acre site for $27 million in August 2020. The property, situated in the heart of Montrose, previously housed a retail plaza that included tenants such as Half-Price Books, Mattress Firm, Mattress Pro, and Spec’s Wine and Spirits.

The area surrounding the development has seen a surge in high-profile projects in recent years. One notable project is the $105 million *Montrose Collective*, a mixed-use development located about a block east of Skanska’s site. Construction on Montrose Collective began in February 2020, and it opened in 2022, introducing several new-to-Houston tenants along with the Freed-Montrose Neighborhood Library.

Colliers’ Wade Greene and Hannah Schiro from the firm’s Houston office have been selected to handle pre-leasing for the retail spaces in *Starling* before construction begins.
