Skanska Completes Port of Entry Utility Infrastructure Project

Skanska has recently finished a $3.3 million utility infrastructure extension project to prepare the site for the construction of the Otay Mesa East Port of Entry between the United States and Mexico from State Route 11. The San Diego Association of Governments and California Department of Transportation awarded Skanska with this project in July.

The project involved extending sanitary sewer systems, water services for Otay Water District, as well as related services for San Diego Gas & Electric, AT&T, and COX Communications to accommodate all future points of entry. It also included installing water mains, sewers, joint trench utility infrastructure along with a multi-use connector road on Siempre Viva Road for U.S Customs and Border Patrol agents.

According to Elliott Adams, senior project engineer at Skanska’s West Coast civil operations,”We are pleased to announce that we have completed the utilities extension needed for future development at Otay Mesa Port Of Entry.” This will improve mobility and air quality between both countries within San Diego port region.” He added that this successful delivery was possible due to seamless coordination among multiple agencies during this process.
