Skanska Builds Rhode Island NOAA Marine Operations Center

Skanska, a leading construction company, has been awarded a $147 million contract by the U.S. Navy to develop the new NOAA Marine Operations Center in Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island on behalf of NOAA. This project will play a crucial role in advancing ocean research and promoting sustainability and innovation.

According to Paul Pedini, Senior Vice President at Skanska USA Civil’s New England region, they are excited about constructing this state-of-the-art facility that will serve as the headquarters for NOAA’s Office of Marine and Aviation Operations (OMAO) in the Atlantic region. The project includes building a pier for four large vessels along with an administration building spanning 22,129 square feet. Other facilities such as parking areas, exterior storage spaces and loading zones will also be constructed.

The construction is set to begin in December 2023 with an expected completion date of July 2027. This development marks another significant step towards enhancing marine operations for NOAA without compromising on quality or efficiency.
