**Six Flags America in Maryland to Close After 2025 Season**
Six Flags Entertainment Corporation has announced plans to close Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor in Bowie, Maryland, at the end of the 2025 season.
The company will market the 500-acre property for redevelopment through CBRE, a global real estate services firm. “As part of our comprehensive review of our park portfolio, we have determined that Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor are not a strategic fit with the company’s long-term growth plan,” said Six Flags President & CEO Richard A. Zimmerman in a statement. “After reviewing a number of options, we believe that marketing the property for redevelopment will generate the highest value and return on investment.”
This development follows the recent announcement that Washington, D.C., and the Washington Commanders have reached an agreement to construct a new 65,000-seat, roofed stadium at the RFK site in the District. Notably, the Commanders’ current stadium in Landover and the Six Flags America site are within a 15-minute drive of each other.
Six Flags America has been a regional destination for family entertainment for decades, and its closure marks a significant shift in the area’s entertainment and development landscape.
