The Port of Seattle has announced its budget for 2024, with over $85 million allocated towards expanding the port’s shore power program and establishing a new maritime startup accelerator. According to the Puget Sound Business Journal, this is part of the port’s capital improvement plan which also includes renovating the historic Ship Supply Building at Fisherman’s Terminal and upgrading underwater pier infrastructure.
Additional projects in development include increasing industrial space at Terminal 91 and major renovations at Sea-Tac airport, including a $1.1 billion overhaul of concourses S and C. Port Commission President Sam Cho stated that these investments are necessary to maintain competitiveness as a global gateway, achieve “5 Star” status for their airport, and become North America’s leading environmentally-friendly port.
