Seattle’s Mayor Bruce Harrell has unveiled a new plan to address the city’s growth in the coming years by allowing for increased density and introducing new types of housing. The Draft One Seattle Plan aims to expand density near public transportation, while also bringing diverse housing options to all neighborhoods.
The comprehensive draft includes various elements such as land use, transportation, housing, economic development, climate and environment, parks and open space. A key focus is on designating 24 neighborhood centers with higher capacity for housing. Additionally, existing transit-served centers will see expanded boundaries under this proposal. To combat displacement concerns in zoning regulations are being addressed with anti-displacement measures being prioritized alongside transit-oriented growth initiatives.
This latest move by Seattle’s mayor highlights efforts towards sustainable urban development that meets the needs of a growing population without compromising on quality of life or environmental considerations.
