Seattle Developer Jon Runstad, Philanthropist, Passes Away at 81

H. Jon Runstad, the Seattle visionary, civic leader and philanthropist passed away at his home on June 20 after a long illness. A prominent commercial real estate developer, he had an illustrious career spanning over 50 years that helped shape the Seattle skyline.

As CEO of Wright Runstad & Company, he oversaw the development of nearly 20 million square feet of commercial real estate occupied by tenants such as Microsoft, Amazon and Facebook across multiple cities including downtown Seattle to Bellevue Olympia Boise Portland and Los Angeles.

Runstad’s notable projects in Seattle include Rainier Square 1201 Third formerly First Interstate building first Bellevue high rises original Microsoft campus The Spring District in Bellevue as well as redevelopment of University Washington Husky Stadium among others. He earned his MBA from Harvard Business School and was actively involved with philanthropy focusing on civic causes entrepreneurial education for real estate professionals along with local charities alongside wife Judy .
