Scottsdale Approves $400M Factory Construction with ASM

The City of Scottsdale has reached an agreement to reimburse Advanced Semiconductor Materials (ASM) for the necessary infrastructure costs associated with their new headquarters and research facility in north Scottsdale. In exchange, ASM is required to construct a 400,000-square-foot facility and create 500 jobs with an average salary of $110,000, resulting in a total payroll of $55 million.

According to the Phoenix Business Journal, ASM’s expected capital expenditure for this project will exceed $400 million. This includes expenses such as land acquisition, construction costs and equipment installation within the facility. The company purchased nearly 24 acres at the southeast corner of Scottsdale Road and Loop 101 for over $33 million.

ASM specializes in designing and providing wafer processing equipment used primarily for thin film deposition – a crucial process in semiconductor manufacturing. Currently located near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on E University Drive, ASM’s new headquarters will be situated at their newly acquired site.
