The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) has entered a long-term ground lease agreement with Charities Housing to develop 45 townhomes for low-income residents near the Branham Light Rail Station in Santa Clara.

Approximately 25% of the units will be allocated to extremely low-income residents, defined as those earning 30% or less of Santa Clara County’s median income. This marks the first project of its kind within VTA’s portfolio of transit-oriented developments.

The Branham homeownership project is one of several housing initiatives supported by a collaboration between VTA and the Santa Clara County Office of Supportive Housing. The effort is funded in part by the 2016 Measure A Affordable Housing Bond.

“This project is a good example of VTA’s role as a leader in solving problems in our community,” said VTA Board Chair and Campbell Mayor Sergio Lopez. “Hopefully we are paving the way for future innovations in affordable housing solutions.”
