"San Marcos Data Center to Receive Innovative Plans from Developer"

A Denver-based developer is proposing a flagship hyper-scale data center campus in San Marcos that will be powered by natural gas, serving artificial intelligence companies. This comes as no surprise, as data centers are known for their high power consumption.

According to the Austin Business Journal, there has been criticism surrounding data centers and their strain on electricity grids due to their massive energy needs. However, some are now turning to alternative sources such as natural gas in order to alleviate this issue.

CloudBurst Data Centers Inc. has partnered with Energy Transfer for a long-term agreement where Energy Transfer will provide 450 million British thermal units of natural gas per day from its Oasis Pipeline to the future San Marcos data center campus. This partnership is expected to result in 1.2 gigawatts of electric power over a period of at least 10 years.

The plans for the San Marcos data center are currently being finalized and it is set to become operational by the third quarter of next year.
