The dream of a downtown baseball stadium in San Antonio is becoming a reality as advocates make progress. The San Antonio Independent School District has agreed to provide the land for the proposed $160 million ballpark, which would be home to the AAA team, San Antonio Missions. Currently, the team plays at Wolff Stadium just outside of town.
The district’s board of trustees has expressed interest in supporting this project by transferring ownership of their property to Bexar County. In return, Bexar County will develop a new parking garage that can be used by both SAISD and for events at the ballpark. Once completed, Bexar County will then transfer ownership of the stadium site to a newly formed development authority called San Pedro Creek Development Authority.
This authority includes representatives from both city and county governments and will oversee all aspects related to developing this new ballfield in downtown San Antonio. With plans starting to take shape and support from various stakeholders involved, it seems like this exciting project is well on its way towards completion.
