**San Antonio Spurs Plan Mixed-Use Entertainment District with City’s Backing**
The San Antonio Spurs are looking to follow the growing trend among professional sports franchises by developing a mixed-use entertainment and shopping district surrounding a proposed new arena. The envisioned development would be anchored by a new Spurs arena at Hemisfair and include a vibrant mix of restaurants, bars, retail spaces, and hospitality venues.
In support of the initiative, the City of San Antonio has submitted a $30 million offer to purchase three downtown parcels currently owned by the federal government. These parcels were declared surplus property by the General Services Administration (GSA) and placed on its accelerated disposition list in 2025.
If the city’s offer is accepted, it could pave the way for a joint development effort with the Spurs that would transform the area into a major destination for both locals and visitors. Voters in Bexar County have already approved $310 million in public funding toward the arena and surrounding development.
The San Antonio City Council is expected to vote on the proposed land purchase on January 15, with city officials estimating that GSA approval could take 90 to 120 days following the submission.
The project represents a significant opportunity to reimagine downtown San Antonio, blending sports, entertainment, and urban redevelopment in one of the city’s most iconic locations.
